Halpin and Hoskins hit 2 homers each and Guardians hit 7 longballs in win over Twins

CLEVELAND (AP) — Petey Halpin and Rhys Hoskins each went deep twice and the Cleveland Guardians matched a franchise record for a home game by hitting seven home runs in their 13-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Monday night.

Bryan Rocchio, Travis Bazzana and Patrick Bailey also homered for Cleveland.

It was the sixth time in the franchise’s 125 seasons that Cleveland went deep at least seven times. Cleveland hit a franchise-best eight homers at Milwaukee on April 25, 1997, and at Seattle on July 16, 2004.

Cleveland also homered seven times at home on April 30, 2013, against Philadelphia.

Minnesota starter Joe Ryan (6-6) set a franchise record by allowing six homers. The All-Star right-hander gave up eight runs and a career-high 10 hits in four innings, raising his ERA from 2.85 to 3.38.

Cleveland’s Chase DeLauter had four hits and three RBIs. Bailey also had four hits. Halpin added three hits and three RBIs and Bazzana also had three hits.

YANKEES 8, PIRATES 5

NEW YORK (AP) — Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered in consecutive at-bats against All-Star Braxton Ashcraft and drove in five runs, powering New York to a victory over Pittsburgh.

Both benches and bullpens emptied after José Caballero bounced into an inning-ending double play against Pirates reliever Dennis Santana in the eighth. Santana became heated and started yelling at Caballero on the field. The right-hander was restrained by teammates Rafael Flores and Bryan Reynolds before order was restored after a few minutes without any punches or ejections.

On a night when New York squandered an early four-run cushion, Chisholm’s 10th career multihomer game and first since Sept. 2 last year helped the Yankees win for the third time in their last 12 home games.

RAYS 7, BLUE JAYS 1

TORONTO, (AP) — Cedric Mullins, Victor Mesa Jr. and Nick Fortes hit solo homers, Nick Martinez pitched six innings of one-run ball and AL East-leading Tampa Bay beat struggling Toronto.

Junior Caminero had three hits and an RBI, Yandy Díaz had two hits and scored twice, and Jonathan Aranda added an RBI single as the Rays snapped a five-game losing streak.

Tampa Bay has gone 6-1 against Toronto this season.

Martinez (9-2) gave up one run and six hits, all singles, and extended his unbeaten streak to seven starts.

Cam Booser worked a 1-2-3 seventh, Casey Legumina handled the eighth and Bryan Baker finished for the Rays.

The Blue Jays made three errors in losing for the fifth time in six games. They’ve scored two runs in the past three games, all losses.

RED SOX 6, ORIOLES 5

BOSTON (AP) — Caleb Durbin hit a tiebreaking homer over the Green Monster with two outs in the eighth inning, and Boston extended the second-longest winning streak in club history to 14 games, beating Baltimore to snap the Orioles’ season-best win streak at seven.

The Red Sox would match a club record with a win Tuesday night. Boston won 15 straight in 1946 on a team led by future Hall of Famer Ted Williams.

Christian Encarnacion-Strand, recalled from Triple-A four days ago, homered and hit a run-scoring single for the Orioles, who committed four errors and allowed two unearned runs.

Durbin connected on a 1-0 cutter from Tyler Wells (2-2), setting off a celebration by teammates in front of Boston’s dugout.

Garrett Whitlock (5-1) worked a perfect eighth, and Aroldis Chapman picked up his 22nd save when Tyler O’Neill lined to short with runners on second and third to end it.

PHILLIES 10, DODGERS 7

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Trea Turner hit two homers, including the 200th of his career, and drove in five runs, Bryce Harper and Brandon Marsh also went deep and Philadelphia beat Los Angeles.

NL All-Star starter Cristopher Sánchez (12-4) allowed three runs in 5 1/3 innings. He allowed seven hits while striking out seven and walking none.

Derek Hill added a solo homer for the Phillies, who trail NL East-leading Atlanta by three games.

Mookie Betts homered twice and had two singles for the MLB-leading Dodgers. Los Angeles has lost seven of its last eight games in Philadelphia.

Turner’s two-run, two-out shot in the second off Emmet Sheehan (4-7) put the Phillies in front 4-0. It was 4-1 with one out and runners on first and second in the sixth Sánchez was lifted for Orion Kerkering. Pinch-hitter Max Muncy doubled, pulling LA within 4-2. After an intentional walk to Shohei Ohtani loaded the bases, Turner couldn’t field Teoscar Hernández’s grounder, resulting in another Los Angeles run.

BRAVES 3, PADRES 2

ATLANTA (AP) — Bryce Elder pitched six strong innings, providing needed rest for an overworked bullpen and leading Atlanta to a victory over San Diego in the opener of a four-game home series.

Michael Harris II and Ozzie Albies homered for the Braves, who used 13 pitchers over the weekend. But Elder (6-6) limited San Diego to two runs — both on homers — and five hits with four strikeouts and a walk.

Atlanta’s second win over the Padres since the start of the 2025 season started on quiet note. JP Spears (2-3) pitched four shutout innings before Harris homered to right field in the bottom of the fifth, tying the game at 1.

Braves center fielder Joey Bart then drove Mauricio Dubón home with a double, giving Atlanta a 2-1 lead.

Albies hit his 15th homer of the season in the sixth, snapping a 36-inning homer-less streak for Padres lefty Wandy Peralta.

Danny Young replaced Elder in the seventh after Ty France homered to cut Atlanta’s lead to 3-2. Victor Mederos pitched the final 2 1/3 innings for the Braves and recorded his first career save.

ROYALS 4, GIANTS 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Nick Loftin’s squeeze bunt with one out in the ninth inning scored Josh Rojas to give Kansas City a victory over San Francisco.

Rojas hit a single to lead off the inning, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Tolbert and then went to third on Carter Jensen’s lineout. Loftin then bunted toward first base and Rojas scored easily when Bryce Eldridge didn’t field the ball cleanly.

Loftin, who entered after starting shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. left the game in the fifth inning with lower back tightness, singled in the seventh in addition to the game-winning bunt.

Willy Adames hit a tying two-run homer in the ninth before Kansas City recovered for its third win in four games since the All-Star break.

The Royals were up 3-1 entering the ninth after Salvador Perez’s two-run homer and Isaac Collins’ RBI single in the fourth inning.

BREWERS 8, METS 3

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Cooper Pratt hit his first major league homer and had his first career three-hit game to help spoil Freddy Peralta’s return to Milwaukee as the Brewers defeated New York.

Joey Ortiz had a three-run homer and Andrew Vaughn launched a two-run shot for the Brewers, who won their fourth straight. Vaughn also doubled.

Milwaukee ace Jacob Misiorowski struck out six and allowed one unearned run while throwing 65 pitches over four innings in his first appearance since July 7. Misiorowski was scratched from a scheduled July 12 start due to arm fatigue, and Brewers manager Pat Murphy spoke before Monday’s game about monitoring the two-time All-Star’s workload.

Peralta (5-9) gave up seven runs over 5 1/3 innings while facing the Brewers for the first time after pitching for them from 2018-25. He received two standing ovations from the Milwaukee crowd — one after a pregame video tribute to him aired on the American Family Field scoreboard and another as he left the game with the Mets trailing 5-1.
