Is it time to worry about Fernando Mendoza and Jermod McCoy being unsigned?
The Las Vegas Raiders rookies report to training camp in 15 days and yet two of their 10 member 2026 draft class remain unsigned.
Las Vegas has yet to sign first-round pick (and No. 1 overall choice) quarterback Fernando Mendoza and fourth-round pick, cornerback Jermod McCoy. There are currently less than 10 unsigned draft pick around the league and two of them are Raiders.
Is it a problem? No, not at the moment and it likely will resolve itself soon.
Draft pick holdouts have become pretty rare around the league since the 2011 CBA agreement. They still do happen, but it’s far more less common than in the past.
The only first-round draft picks who are unsigned are Mendoza and fellow quarterback Ty Simpson, who was the No. 13 overall pick by the Los Angeles Rams. They were the only two quarterbacks taken in the first round.
There has been media speculation that both players are unsigned because of details with secondary contract language such as guarantee payout scheduling, offset language and voiding rules.
So, there is no likely no major holdouts. Sometimes, the details take time.
In McCoy’s case, a signing delay may be related to his injury status. The Tennessee product was considered a first-round talent but his stock fell because of injury concerns. So, there could be some contract language involved with his injury status.
At this point, there isn’t much to worry about, but if the Raiders don’t have both of these players signed by the week of reporting date, that could change.
But it’s likely things will be worked out in time for training camp, particularly by the team the full squad begins training camp July 29.
