The term “Trump curse” was trending on social media following the U.S. Men’s Soccer team’s ouster from the World Cup on Monday night (July 6), with many blaming the president for getting involved. It’s not the first time in recent months that the president has seemingly jinxed a sports team.

After Belgium easily beat the U.S. by 4 goals to 1 at Lumen Field in Seattle, sports fans took to social media to slam Donald Trump for cursing the World Cup. This came after Trump boasted about calling FIFA President Gianni Infantino to get a controversial red card overturned.

U.S. Men’s Soccer team star Folarin Balogun received a red card during the game against Bosnia-Herzegovina, which should have made him ineligible to play against Belgium. However, following Trump’s call, FIFA announced on Sunday (July 5) that it was suspending the red card, meaning Balogun could play in the crucial knockout game.

Critics accused Trump and FIFA of corruption, though FIFA stated that suspending a red card was within its rules. Regardless, Trump’s interference didn’t help, as Belgium knocked the U.S. out of the World Cup. Now, many are blaming the president.

“He cursed the Knicks in Game 3 and now this. The Trump Curse is real,” wrote one X user, referring to how the Knicks lost the NBA Finals game where Trump attended.

People around the Country are saying that whatever Trump touches turns to Crap just like the USMNT loss to Belgium and the Knicks game he attended. pic.twitter.com/uy0dQCPcTp

Another pointed out that the Kansas City Chiefs lost after Trump picked them, and that the Commanders lost at home with Trump in attendance.

“THE TRUMP EFFECT: The USA just lost to Belgium in the World Cup Round of 16 by a score of 4-1, right after Trump personally called FIFA to clear star striker Balogun to play,” wrote MediasTouch.

“Everything Trump touches dies,” added another.

“Maybe Trump can call FIFA and ask them to find 4 more goals,” one fan quipped.

Another wrote, “4 to 1 Belgium, and Trump cheating on Team USA’s behalf ends up meaningless because his curse always takes over.”

“USA loses to Belgium 4-1 and gets eliminated from World Cup after Trump intervention,” wrote another. “Trump cursed USA Soccer. He is to blame for tonight’s massacre.”

“We really need to study this Trump Curse. It’s hit every major sport. I haven’t seen anything like this since the Kardashian Kurse,” said one commenter.

Trump couldn’t just leave the US team alone in the World Cup. Just had to get involved. At least the Knicks had other games to make up for Trump’s curse in Game 3.

“The USMNT caught the Trump Curse,” another added.

“I’m crying man the Trump curse is so real,” one user wrote.

Another added, “At this point, a Trump endorsement is starting to look less like support and more like a curse. One appearance, one prediction, and suddenly everyone is checking the scoreboard.”

“Trump stuck his nose in where it didn’t belong. It made the world hate us even more than they already do, and emboldened Belgium. I wish the US had won and I have to wonder if we would have, if Trump had not interfered. ETTD: Everything Trump touches dies,” another wrote.

Pretty savage troll, especially on US soil & after Trump fought to have FIFA review the bogus red card suspension on Balogun.

Well played pic.twitter.com/HRgRwUUzNH

Following their 4-1 victory, the Belgium team mocked Trump during their post-game celebrations by doing his double-fisted dance moves.
