John Deere Classic: Jackson Suber starts final round tied for third
Former Ole Miss golf star Jackson Suber is achingly close to his first ever PGA Tour win at the John Deere Classic this afternoon.
The Tampa native is only 26, but with nearly 50 PGA Tour starts, he has not yet claimed a title though he has come incredibly close. Earlier this season, he held the 54-hole lead at the RBC Canadian Open though ultimately finished in fourth, and in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson Classic, he notched a top five finish as well.
Suber will need some of his best golf today with a crowded leaderboard at the top as 18 players are within three strokes of the lead. If he can repeat his Friday high water mark score of 64 (-7) it could propel him past the crowd into the top spot.
If you have been following him closely, his putting has been somewhat of an issue with some inside ten feet not falling when they are needed. For the season, he is ranked 83rd on the tour in total putting metrics. What has kept him in good shape this week however is his ability to avoid a blow up with only four bogeys for the tournament mitigating any poor approach shots.
Current odds for Suber to win if you enjoy throwing money at golf is +950. Coverage of the John Deere Classic is live on the Golf Channel as of 12 p.m. CT and will switch to CBS later in the afternoon. We’ll update the final scores later today, stay tuned.
