Jürgen Klopp acknowledges a move to Germany is close

The return of Jürgen Klopp to German football is almost here.

After transforming Borussia Dortmund into Bundesliga champions, ending Bayern Munich’s domestic dominance, and later restoring Liverpool to the top of English and European football, Klopp is now set to take on arguably his biggest challenge yet: leading the German national team.

Few managers in world football have built a résumé like Klopp’s. He won back-to-back Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund, lifted the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with Liverpool, and has long been viewed as the ideal figure to usher in a new era for Die Mannschaft.

Now, the 59-year-old says the official announcement is only a matter of time.

“Nothing has been finalized yet. But the talks have gone well, and everything is moving in the right direction. I’ve reached an agreement and an arrangement with Red Bull — a very, very generous one, if you like. So, practically speaking, nothing stands in the way anymore. We’re not that far away from being able to make announcement. When the time comes, we’ll make the announcement ourselves – we don’t need others constantly jumping the gun,” Klopp said during an appearance on MagentaTV (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It should happen within the next few days, ideally. After all, there are only around 60 days until the next international match. At some point, a decision has to be made, and it will be made.”

For the first time since stepping away from Liverpool, Klopp is ready to return to the touchline. Germany will be hoping the man who rebuilt Mainz, revolutionized Dortmund, and ended Liverpool’s 30-year wait for a league title can now restore Die Mannschaft to the top of world football.
