K-State baseball upsets Utah, advances in Big 12 Tournament

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Wildcats keep their season alive.

K-State (29-26, 11-19 Big 12) keeps its season alive and is moving on in the Big 12 Tournament, beating Utah (26-25, 12-18 Big 12) 9-5.

The Wildcats move on to Wednesday, May 20, to take on No. 7 seed TCU.

The Utes opened the scoring in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run double from Jake Long. Cal Miller would single for Utah next to bring in another score, jumping out to a 3-0 lead.

K-State would respond in the sixth inning with a two-run blast from AJ Evasco.

The Wildcats would then score three in the seventh with an RBI triple from Dee Kennedy, a single from Kyan Lodice and a sac-fly from Bear Madliak to give the Wildcats a 5-3 lead.

Utah would pull one back with a solo home run from Luke Jacobs in the seventh followed by a sac-fly to tie the game at 5-5.

K-State would pull ahead once again in the eighth off a throwing error to lead 6-5.

The Wildcats added to their lead with an RBI single from Kennedy and a two-run single from Ty Smolinski to go up 9-5.

K-State will take on the Horned Frogs on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT.
