Key question facing Jaguars' offensive line unit in training camp
With training camp drawing closer, we will be highlighting the one big question that faces each of the Jacksonville Jaguars' position groups.
Next up is the offensive line unit, where the Jaguars need improved play in the run game.
Can the Jaguars be a more effective rushing offense in 2026?
The Jaguars' offense was red-hot down the stretch last season, averaging nearly 33 points per game during their win streak, and they accomplished that without a steady running game to lean on.
Overall on the year, the Jaguars ranked 27th in yards per rush. From Week 10 on, there were five games where Etienne failed to rush for over 60 yards.
Of Travis Etienne's 292 total rushing yards in those games, over 78% of them came after contact, per PFF. Or, another way to put it, he had little room to run.
A rushing offense doesn't need to be spectacular to be effective, but it does need to churn out positive gains consistently. When that happens, the offense operates ahead of the sticks, which opens up the playbook and passing game for Liam Coen and Trevor Lawrence.
Conversely, a run game that struggles leaves an offense in predictable passing situations, where the defense has the upper hand.
As we look for ways that the Jacksonville offense can level up in Year 2 under Coen, a more successful run game will go a long way in accomplishing that.
