Jürgen Klopp has hinted he would seek a long term engagement as Germany coach because he has also worked for many years at his clubs as well.

Klopp, 59, is the designated man to succeed Julian Nagelsmann, who resigned last week after Germany's round of 32 exit at the World Cup against Paraguay.

Klopp has coached his three club teams over several years: Mainz 2001-2008, Borussia Dortmund 2008-2015 and Liverpool 2015-2024.

"I was at clubs for a long time and not only the first team was important for me," Klopp said at the World Cup as MagentaTV pundit.

"The next game is one thing, the other is the future of it all. In order to change something you must first know what is actually happening. I have no idea what will happen. Whoever comes must first have a look."

Klopp confirmed that he helped talk Rudi Völler into continuing as sporting director.

"If it happens it would be very helpful to have someone there who knows the proceedings," Klopp said.

"Rudi with all his football experience, and especially with his years of work for the federation (DFB). While I, if it is me (as coach), I would have no experience. I have neither played in the national team nor trained one."

Völler confirmed earlier on Tuesday that he will stay on and said he talked on the phone on Saturday with Klopp.

“When you then read that people are wondering whether Rudi Völler would be able to work with me if push came to shove, I did think it was about time we had a proper chat. And that’s when I told him: ‘Well, it wouldn’t be down to me’,” Klopp said.
