Malone signs contract as UNC men’s basketball head coach
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WAVY) — Michael Malone is the 19th head coach in University of North Carolina men’s basketball history. Tuesday night in Chapel Hill, he was introduced in front of the Tar Heels faithful.
Malone spent 13 seasons as an NBA head coach, but has never led a college program.
He won an NBA championship with the Denver Nuggets in 2023.
Malone replaces Hubert Davis Jr. after five seasons as head coach.
According to reports, Malone’s contract is for six-years, $50 million, averaging $8.3 million per year, making him the second highest paid coach in college basketball.
