Max Eberl just wants to focus on what is best for Bayern Munich

Few jobs in world football come with more pressure than serving as Bayern Munich’s board member for sport. Every transfer is scrutinized, every contract negotiation becomes headline news, and every decision is analyzed from every angle. For Max Eberl, navigating that environment has required a clear focus on one priority above all else: doing what is best for Bayern Munich.

Reflecting on his approach, Eberl talked through how he approaches his job.

“I simply focused on what was best for FC Bayern. My aim was to make the right decisions with coach Vincent Kompany, sporting director Christoph Freund, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, and of course the supervisory board, while ignoring the noise. That doesn’t mean I wasn’t emotional or that some things didn’t affect me. Focusing on these things gave me the strength to make good decisions despite the commotion. I’m simply happy that the decisions we made and the considerations we put into things were good for FC Bayern. I’m looking at a squad with quality and players who identify with the club. And we’ve managed to bring calm to the club. I’m happy about that,” Eberl told Sport1’s Stefan Kumberger (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Eberl’s comments reveal an executive who understands that success is rarely achieved through one person’s vision. Instead, he emphasizes collaboration with Vincent Kompany, Christoph Freund, Jan-Christian Dreesen, and Bayern Munich’s leadership, reinforcing the idea that the club’s biggest decisions are made collectively.

Perhaps the most telling part of his statement is his reference to “ignoring the noise.” At Bayern Munich, speculation never stops. Transfer rumors, media criticism, and public debate are constant companions. Eberl acknowledges that those distractions affected him personally, but he refused to let them dictate the club’s direction.

Whether supporters agree with every decision or not, there is little question that Bayern Munich enters the new season with greater stability than it did a year ago. A talented squad, a unified leadership group, and a calmer atmosphere provide a foundation that Eberl hopes will translate into success on the pitch.
