Netflix released its third season of 'Quarterback' this July. The series follows various NFL quarterbacks around for a reason, and this featured Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield, who had some interesting things to say about missing the playoffs. 

What Did Mayfield Say on 'Quarterback' Season 3?

In episode 7 titled 'Don't Stop', the Buccaneers defeated the Carolina Panthers at home last in the season in Week 18, 16-14. Tampa Bay was fighting for a spot in the playoffs, and the only way to get it was if the New Orleans Saints beat the Atlanta Falcons in Week 18. Atlanta defeated New Orleans 19-17, which ended the Buccaneers' playoff chances. 

Mayfield appeared in his kitchen watching the game, and after it was over, he spoke about missing the playoffs. "To start out 6-2 and not make the playoffs blows my mind. When you know you have a team that's more than capable of making it. It..It really hurts. We just obviously didn't play well enough down the stretch to do it. I just... If we just would have won at Carolina or Miami, we wouldn't have been sitting here like this." 

Mayfield added, "It was in our hands until today. Like we just sh*t the bed to get to this point. It's frustrating. Cause I looked at the roster going into the season thinking, 'this is the best roster I've ever been on." 

"With a great chance to make a run. Just couldn't... couldn't make the plays. " 

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2025 season review

The Buccaneers started the 2025 season great, going 3-0, then 3-2 over the next five games. They went 1-1 against the Falcons, 1-1 against the Saints, and the same for the Panthers. The season crumbled a bit for them, and they weren't able to get things going as they did in the earlier parts of the year. 

For Mayfield, he had a good campaign, throwing for 3,693 yards and 26 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. He even looked like an MVP candidate a bit, but he also dealt with a lot of injuries. Tampa had a good roster and talent, but the NFC South is catching up to them. 

Now for 2026, they have a good roster and made great additions. But they have to be able to beat teams like the Panthers, who may be the favorite in the division, and win important games on the road.
