Middlesex have announced the appointment of Julie Harrington as the county's interim chief executive officer.

Harrington, the former CEO of British Cycling and the British Horseracing Authority, said she was looking forward to "bringing her experience" to the club.

Her appointment comes after chief executive, Andrew Cornish, was placed on a leave of absence amid an investigation being carried out by the Cricket Regulator.

In March, former England captain Mike Gatting and a group of high-profile former Middlesex players wrote to members after calling on the club's chair, Richard Sykes, to resign over what they said was the poor running of the club.

In a statement, Sykes said Harrington's "extensive leadership experience across major sports" would be invaluable to the club.

"Together, we remain focused on providing stability for our people, supporting our players, members and staff, and ensuring Middlesex continues to move forward with confidence and purpose," he added.

Harrington will take up the role on Monday, 20 July.
