Mo Salah hits the jackpot as extraordinary Besiktas contract details leaked
Liverpool have lost Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian King reached an agreement to rip up his £400k per week contract one year early. Having fallen out with club bosses - including previous head coach Arne Slot - the 34-year-old brought the curtain down on a glorious Merseyside spell.
Salah has won two African footballer of the year titles as well as countless other team and individual honours. He originally inked a two-year extension back in 2025 - towards the backend of his second Premier League-winning campaign.
But that was brought to a premature end - leaving Liverpool facing up to life without their talismanic No11.
Salah moves closer to Besiktas
A target for several clubs in Saudi Arabia it was expected that the Pharaoh would sign a lucrative deal in the Saudi Pro League. But that didn’t come to pass.
Instead it was left to Besiktas to strike a deal - with Salah getting the chance to remain in Europe. A surprising development initially was the claim that Salah would be making around HALF of what he earned at Liverpool following his £20m per year renewal.
Reportedly the Turkish Super Lig side were offering about £10m per annum including bonuses - a far cry from what he was earning at Anfield.
Salah agrees more than €40m (£34m) deal with Besiktas
The deal was held up owing to commission demands being made by Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas. But a breakthrough was reached over the weekend with the Colombian reportedly okaying a deal.
Now A Spor is reporting that Abbas and Salah have conducted a negotiating masterclass - and he is set to be making around the same money he was at Liverpool.
Factoring in basic salary, add-ons and other clauses it looks like Salah will be getting very close to his £20m per year figure that he commanded at Liverpool.
Only a matter of time before Salah signs for Besiktas
With everything factored in Salah will be costing Besiktas more than an eye-watering €40m (£34m) over the two seasons they plan to have him at the club.
“Besiktas has offered the Egyptian football legend a two-year contract,” the report reads.
“It is reported that the 34-year-old star was offered a guaranteed annual salary of €15 million and performance bonuses reaching €4 million.
“The contract also includes special clauses regarding the player's image rights.
“With these items included, the total cost of the two-year offer exceeds €40 million.
“If the Colombian agent accepts the offer, Besiktas will send a private jet to Greece to pick up the experienced player.”
It’s only a matter of time before an accord is struck - with Salah remaining on his post-season break following the FIFA World Cup with Egypt.
