Newcastle, Aston Villa Holding Transfer Talks Over Brazil Midfielder

Newcastle United continues to explore midfield reinforcements as Eddie Howe weighs up options to reshape his squad following Sandro Tonali’s departure and the uncertain future of Bruno Guimaraes in Tyneside.

According to TEAMtalk, Newcastle has held talks with the representatives of Galatasaray midfielder and Brazil international Gabriel Sara, who is available for around €30 million (£25 million) this summer.

The report, however, envisions a bidding war between Newcastle and Aston Villa as both sides have contacted the Brazilian’s camp, while Napoli is monitoring the situation as Galatasaray looks to raise funds for its own transfer business.

“Sara has expressed a willingness to return to the Premier League, where he previously played, and would be open to a move back to England if the opportunity arises,” TEAMtalk wrote.

The report adds that Newcastle’s lack of European football could complicate its pursuit, with Sara looking for the best possible option to stay competing at the highest possible level next season after doing so at Galatasaray last year, reaching the Champions League’s round of 16.

“Should a club also have European football that would also be seen as a big factor in his decision making, which is something that could help Villa and hinder Newcastle,” TEAMtalk wrote.

Sara previously spent two seasons with Norwich City before joining Galatasaray for €18 million two years ago, where he has developed into one of the Turkish club’s standout midfielders.

TEAMtalk also reports that no formal offers have yet been submitted, although Galatasaray is aware of the growing interest and wouldn’t oppose a sale if their €30 million valuation of the player is met.

“The coming weeks will be important in determining whether a deal can be struck,” the outlet wrote. “Galatasaray remain flexible on the fee provided it meets their financial requirements, while Sara’s openness to a return to England keeps the door open for Premier League clubs.”

Sara scored six goals and assisted on six more in 42 games played across all competitions, including an international friendly with Brazil, last season.
