Panthers WR Xavier Legette shines on Sunday, continues 'great' start to training camp

Thus far, the offseason has been more make than break for Carolina Panthers wideout Xavier Legette.

The third-year receiver starred in a standout outing for the offense on Sunday, during the team's third practice of 2026 training camp. Legette shined with a couple of fantastic catches, and had head coach Dave Canales singing his praises following the session.

"Just a great carryover from the spring," Canales told reporters of Legette. "At this point now, X knows the system. That's the cool part. As we bring free agents, as we bring rookies in—they see X—and he knows how to do it all.

"He looks fast, he looks powerful. He's having a great camp so far, as we get started. And I'm excited to see where he goes from here."

This season could prove to be a crucial one for the former first-round pick—for better or for worse.

Legette turned in a disappointing sophomore campaign in 2025, where he experienced a dip in his production across the board with 35 receptions for 363 yards and three touchdowns. He also saw a decrease in playing time over the final stretch, ending the year with a career-low 31.4-percent snap share in Carolina's pivotal Week 18 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Additionally, the Panthers have not stood idly by at the position during Legette's struggles. They've already secured a new No. 1 target in reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Tetairoa McMillan, a new No. 2 in the freshly-extended Jalen Coker and a potential deep threat in 2026 third-round pick Chris Brazzell II.

For Legette to finally establish himself within the growth of the Panthers offense, his great camp will have to continue.
