New England Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones addressed the team’s decision to bring on NFL great DeAndre Hopkins to their coaching staff this offseason at training camp reporting day for veteran players.

Jones lauded Hopkins for his body of work over the course of his illustrious career in the league at the wide receiver position on Friday, and co-signed him in his new coaching role with the team.

”First off, man, an unbelievable player when it comes down to it,” Jones said of Hopkins, via MassLive’s Mark Daniels. “He’s had great seasons every single time he played. The expertise, when it comes down to it too, is much respected for everyone in the DB role. So, having him in the building means a lot.”

Patriots coach Mike Vrabel revealed that Hopkins is considering a coaching career, and he will be with the Patriots as he makes his decision.

The South Carolina native was named an All-Pro five times across 13 seasons played in the NFL from 2013-2025. He will get the chance to offer invaluable guidance to the team’s offensive players, as well as Jones and the rest of the team’s defensive backs who seek to defend the top receivers in the league best moving forward.
