Play Golf Myrtle Beach World Amateur has 3,000 golfers signed up
They call it the World’s Largest Amateur Golf Championship and when you see the numbers, it'll make sense. The 43rd Annual Play Golf Myrtle Beach World Amateur has hit maximum capacity for its event Aug. 31 to Sept. 4.
How does 3,000 golfers sound? That's the maxed-out tee sheet for this 72-hole stroke play event that concludes with a finale for flight winners at Grande Dunes Resort Course in South Carolina.
This is a male-dominated entry list, with 2,698 men along with 308 women. The youngest golfer is 20, while the oldest is 93. There are going to be golfers from 49 states and 17 countries with 95 percent of the participants coming from outside a 50-mile radius of the Myrtle Beach area.
"We are excited that 3,000 people have registered from all over the world to play in this year’s World Am,” said Scott Taylor, Championship Director. "Each year, our community’s goal is to provide the best possible experience to the largest number of people that we can. We look forward to welcoming new and returning participants this year.”
Registration has closed but tournament officials opened an alternate list, based on the order of sign-up. This event features 12 divisions and 60 flights.
