Point taken: Sophie Cunningham's viral gesture strikes again

Indiana Fever's Sophie Cunningham is reclaiming her iconic pointed finger.

During the Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury game at the latter team's home court on July 9, Mercury fans pointed at the WNBA player after she was called for an offensive foul, social media videos show. But after the game, Cunningham made sure to let the rival team know who the moment really belonged to.

The pointed fingers were in reference to a viral moment from a few weeks ago. During a Fever and Mercury game on June 22, Cunningham and Mercury star DeWanna Bonner got into a verbal altercation on the court. Instead of continuing the conversation, Cunningham took to simply pointing at Bonner. Photos and videos of the moment quickly went viral, which the star player has addressed in several interviews over recent weeks.

"I was just kind of pointing (at Bonner), and she's like, 'Don't you point at me!' and I was like, 'Oop, shouldn't have said that.' And, I didn't say a word," Cunningham recalled on her podcast "Show Me Something" with West Wilson. "That is the stupidest thing I've ever done. I'm telling you, everyone's like, 'That is so dumb.' I think it's dumb, but it was pissing (Bonner) off, and I couldn't help myself. I could not. She was losing her (expletive), and all I was doing was literally pointing."

After the Fever beat the Mercury 92-89 on July 9, Cunningham pointed out into the crowd, which was met with laughs from her teammates.

Videos from the Mercury fan side of the arena on July 9 depict hundreds of attendees pointing toward Cunningham on the court just after she got called for an offensive foul.

After Cunningham and her team went on to win the game, one commenter pointed out: "She got the last laugh."
