A potential answer for the Detroit Lions at cornerback is reportedly signing elsewhere.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, former Miami Dolphins corner Rasul Douglas is planning to sign a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders worth up to $3.8 million.

Douglas, 30, played 15 games last season with the Dolphins, totaling 62 tackles, 13 passes defended and a pair of interceptions. With the Lions recently releasing former first-round pick Terrion Arnold, Douglas' name was among a group of free agents linked to the Lions as a possible replacement.

Other names that CBS listed included former Bills cornerback Tre'Davious White, former Colts cornerback Kenny Moore and former Packers cornerback Trevon Diggs.

Douglas missed two games with foot and ankle injuries in 2025, but the veteran limited opponents to 54 catches for 515 yards and three touchdowns when he was targeted 82 times. The 6-foot-2, 209-pound corner was named the AFC's Defensive Player of the Week after defending five passes and recording an interception against the New York Jets in Week 14.

Douglas has started 93 games for five teams during his nine-year NFL career, including the Dolphins, Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills. Douglas has 21 career interceptions.

With Douglas off the board, the Lions will have to look in a different direction if they want to bolster their cornerback ranks via free agency.
