Rangers take Brody Bumila with their third round pick
The Texas Rangers, with their third round pick in the 2026 MLB Draft, #89 overall, select Massachusetts prep pitcher Brody Bumila. We wrote about Bumila, and the news of that he has UCL damage, earlier this week.
Bumila is a 6’9”, 255 lb. lefthanded pitcher out of Bishop Feehan High School in Massachusetts who turns 19 in January. He has a big time fastball that has topped 100 mph, and delivers it with a ton of extension and from a relatively low angle that makes him hard to pick up. His control is good for a prep pitcher who throws this hard, but reports indicate that he needs to tighten up his command, as well as improve his slider and changeup.
Bumila is a two sport athlete who was also a dominant basketball player for his state championship winning high school team. His athleticism and interest in the nuts and bolts aspects of pitching have him viewed as someone who can improve both his command and his stuff as a professional.
Bumila had internal brace surgery last summer, but returned from it and was seen as a likely first round pick prior to the news that he again has UCL damage. He is committed to the University of Texas, but would be expected to sign, given he was taken in the third round.
