Rays Star Junior Caminero Avoids Serious Injury as Tampa Bay Shines in MLB All-Star Game
The Tampa Bay Rays were well represented on Tuesday night during the 2026 MLB All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. 5 players suited up, and many made an impact.
The American League shut out the National League 4-0 on the backs of a great pitching performance. The AL only allowed 3 hits and no extra-base hits in the entire game.
Here is what you need to know from the contest.
Caminero Exits with Injury
The worst case scenario of an exhibition game came true for the Rays as star third baseman Junior Caminero exited the All-Star Game early after taking a pitch off the hand while in the batters box.
Luckily, the tests came back negative, and he is only considered day-to-day. He will have until Friday to recover if he intends on not missing any playing time. The Rays appeared to have dodged a bullet with this one.
Rays Pitching Shines on National Stage
Tampa Bay had 3 chances to prove to the world how good their pitching staff was, and each time they did. All three pitchers in Nick Martinez, Drew Rasmussen, and Bryan Baker were a big part of why the American League was able to shut down the National League.
Martinez and Rasmussen both picked up a shutout inning apiece. Neither player allowed a single walk, and the only negative mark on either player's box score was a single walk by Rasmussen. Each was awarded a Hold in the contest.
It was short lived, but it was impactful for Bryan Baker in his first All-Star appearance. The Rays closer came in for the final out of the game and sealed the deal for the Junior Circuit on just 5 pitches.
Diaz Goes Hitless
The Rays designated hitter had two opportunities at the plate but couldn't get anything going in the All-Star Game. After pinch hitting for Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez, he went down on a three pitch strikeout to Washington Nationals pitcher Foster Griffin.
He had one more chance later in the game, but after 5 pitches he was dealt the same fate when Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Justin Wrobleski sent him back to the dugout.
Tampa Bay will be back in action beginning on the road Friday at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox. Griffin Jax (5-6, 3.47 ERA) is scheduled to go for Tampa Bay in the first start of the second half of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 PM EST.
