Real Madrid just two goals away from breaking World Cup record

The start of the World Cup 2026 was not the most auspicious one for Real Madrid. They saw several of their players, like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dani Carvajal, Alvaro Carreras, Franco Mastantuono, and Eduardo Camavinga, not called up by their respective national teams. With only 9 players playing in the World Cup, it was their lowest representation in the top international tournament in the last decade.

This number increased with the four new signings of Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, and Bernardo Silva, while Endrick also rejoined the Merengue ranks after the end of his loan.

However, it has mostly been a case of quality over quantity for Los Blancos, as several of their players have played key roles for their teams. In fact, Real Madrid is the club with the most goals scored by its players in this World Cup, i.e., 17. As Diario AS has noted, if their players go on to score two more goals, they will create a new record.

Previously, three club teams have seen their players score 18 goals in a single World Cup tournament, i.e., Honved in 1954, Bayern Munich in 2014, and Paris Saint-Germain in 2022. With Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, Aurelien Tchouameni, Marc Cucurella, and Ibrahima Konate still alive in the competition, Real Madrid can very well break this record.

Two of these five players have contributed 12 of their 17 goals in the competition, Kylian Mbappe with 8 and Jude Bellingham with 4. Vinicius Junior also scored 4 goals, but has already been eliminated from the competition. Arda Guler scored one goal in this competition, as his Turkish national team was eliminated from the Group Stage.

Kylian Mbappe is currently tied as the top-scorer in the competition with Lionel Messi, and hopefully, we will see the remaining Real Madrid players score some more goals in the coming matches to create a new record for their club.
