Real Madrid yet to reach final agreement with RB Leipzig over Yan Diomande transfer

Real Madrid’s negotiations with RB Leipzig have been hovering back and forth over the finish line in recent days, but they have not crossed the line yet.

Los Blancos are very close to securing a deal with the German side over the teenage sensation’s acquisition as they look to bolster their right-wing and complete a fearsome attacking trident.

Leipzig, however, are understandably holding out for better economic terms – something they know Real Madrid can afford to shell out courtesy of Florentino Perez’s pre-election promise.

Final details not agreed

Contrary to the widespread reports that Real Madrid have agreed on all required terms for the Diomande transfer, Florian Plettenberg continues to insist that matters are not as rosy as externally portrayed.

The German journalist maintains that the deal is very much on, and that Real Madrid are favourites but quashes the idea that there is any ‘final agreement’ between the two clubs.

The negotiations will thus drag into Wednesday as no agreement could be reached on Tuesday, and the news has reportedly been confirmed by both club sources and the player’s entourage.

As matters stand, Leipzig are demanding a €120 million fee with a higher fixed sum than Real Madrid are offering. 

The big hurdle

Plettenberg goes one step ahead and clarifies the exact point on which Real Madrid and Leipzig are currently differing, and it is indeed to do with the variable fee structure.

The Bundesliga outfit see the variable clauses utilised by Real Madrid to be ‘difficult-to-achieve’, and thereby misleading in terms of being considered a variable bonus. That was the primary concern and reason an agreement was not reached.

Negotiations will continue on Tuesday with the effort of reaching a middle ground on that front, for Leipzig wish for a higher fixed sum and easier-to-achieve bonuses. 

If everything goes to plan, Diomande will sign with Real Madrid until 2031 and serve as Jose Mourinho’s starting right-winger.

Given his profile, he is expected to be a valuable addition to the frontline of Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. The coming days and hours will be crucial in seeing the deal get over the line.
