Real Madrid have already started planning for the future between the posts, even though signing a new goalkeeper is not currently considered a priority.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the club continues to monitor the market in search of a potential signing, but there is said to be no urgency to make a move while Thibaut Courtois remains one of the world’s top goalkeepers.

The Belgian recently extended his contract until 2027 and remains the undisputed number one at the Santiago Bernabeu under Jose Mourinho.

On top of that, Courtois himself is also believed to be keen on continuing at the club beyond the duration of his current deal.

Even so, Real Madrid are aware that succession planning is necessary and are already identifying possible candidates for the future.

There is little debate within Real Madrid regarding the current goalkeeping hierarchy,  as Courtois remains an essential figure in the squad and is viewed as irreplaceable in the short term.

Furthermore, Mourinho’s arrival has done nothing to alter that status, with the Portuguese manager expected to continue relying heavily on the experienced Belgian.

The latest Real Madrid transfer news suggests the club is taking a measured approach to the goalkeeping position, preferring to study emerging talents rather than rushing into a costly signing.

Indeed, while Andriy Lunin remains part of the squad, reports indicate that the Ukrainian is not currently considered the leading candidate to become the long-term Courtois successor.

That has encouraged Real Madrid to continue exploring options across Europe as part of their long-term Real Madrid squad planning.

One player increasingly linked with Madrid is Bart Verbruggen, who has impressed with both Brighton and the Netherlands national team.

The young goalkeeper is viewed as a profile that fits the club’s long-term strategy, although no concrete steps have been taken towards a transfer.

At the same time, the club is also paying close attention to internal solutions.

Highly-rated academy talent Fran Gonzalez is regarded as a promising option, although there are still questions about whether he can eventually reach the level required to succeed Courtois at the highest stage.

For now, patience remains the key word mostly because Madrid’s hierarchy feels there is enough time to evaluate the market thoroughly and identify the best possible candidate when the moment arrives.
