Scottie Scheffler reacts to Jordan Spieth withdrawing from the 3M Open

Scottie Scheffler is the biggest name in the field at the 3M Open this week.

Having Scheffler commit to the 3M Open was huge news for the Twin Cities area.

However, there was real disappointment when Jordan Spieth’s name disappeared from the entry list.

Both Scheffler and his good friend Spieth initially committed to the 3M Open last month.

However, the three-time major champion will not be in Blaine, Minnesota, with no official word given as to why.

Scheffler and Spieth play plenty of golf with each other at home away from the PGA Tour.

So the 20-time PGA Tour winner knows Spieth better than most.

Scottie Scheffler reacts to Jordan Spieth withdrawing from the 3M Open

The world number one addressed the media at TPC Twin Cities on Wednesday morning.

Scheffler was asked whether he has spoken to Spieth.

“I haven’t spoken to him since after The Open, but Jordan’s played a lot of tournaments this year, a lot more I think than maybe he normally has,” the 30-year-old replied.

“Golf is tough in terms of I think mentally it’s more of a grind than anything. Physically it can wear you down as well, but mentally it can be challenging just from I think just the grind it is in order to play a tournament.

“He’s played a lot of tournaments this year, so from my point of view it’s understandable for him to maybe need a week off especially as he tries to grind and make his way into the top-50 to get back into the bigger events next year.

“We play a lot of golf at home and he works super, super hard. I’m sure he’s bummed not to be here this week, but like I said, he’s worked really hard this season and played a lot of tournaments. So I’m sure he wishes he could be here, but rest and time at home is also important as you try and play good golf.“

Jordan Spieth’s PGA Tour results in 2026

Spieth has played 19 tournaments on the PGA Tour this season.

He has only missed one cut, but he still doesn’t have a top-10 finish to his name, and has recorded just eight top-25s.

2026 has been an incredibly challenging year for Jordan Spieth.

The 32-year-old has worked extremely hard on his game, but for scant reward.

There is no doubt that he will continue to work even harder on his game, but maybe he just needed a week off to reset ahead of a vital run of tournaments over the next few weeks as he tries to force his way inside the top-50 of the FedEx Cup points list.

As Scheffler said, perhaps Spieth is just worn down from playing too many events this year.
