Seattle Mariners star Julio Rodriguez sends fan heartfelt gift after painful home run catch fail
One Seattle Mariners fan has received the perfect gift after being hit in the face by a Julio Rodriguez home run.
It has been a rocky period for the Mariners, with Dan Wilson’s team only just maintaining a record over .500.
Tuesday saw the Mariners secure a convincing victory over the Cincinnati Reds, with Rodriguez capping off the scoring in the eighth with a homer.
For lifelong fan Nikki Jones, that home run ball caused a serious impact as she misjudged her catch and felt the ball strike her in the face.
Having not only suffered the impact of being struck in the face, Jones also lost out on the home run ball.
The Mariners have, however, made sure to send Jones a gift out as a result of her misfortune on Tuesday at T Mobile Park.
What the Seattle Mariners gifted lifelong fan after home run catch fail
Another fan walked away with Rodriguez’s eighth inning home run ball on Tuesday, despite Jones’ best efforts to catch the ball.
Having seen her injury through a post made online, the Mariners and Rodriguez made sure to send Jones a ball out with a personal message added.
“I’m sorry! Get well soon,” wrote Rodriguez on the ball which was signed and sent out to Jones as she recovered from her bruised face.
“Julio reached out to me on Instagram, and he just apologized,” Jones said.
“And I just responded back, ‘There’s no need to apologize.’ Like you hit a home run. Like there’s nothing to apologize for. It’s not like you did it on purpose, obviously. So that was pretty cool.”
The Mariners’ center fielder was not the only player to get in touch with Jones and wish her a speedy recovery, though.
Her favourite player, Andres Munoz, reached out to Jones over Instagram to wish her a speedy recovery.
Ironically, the M’s were giving out Munoz bobbleheads on Tuesday for the game against the Reds.
This will certainly not be a game that Jones will forget in a hurry.
