Sister of Turkey coach Montella dies after accident at home
Turkey coach Vincenzo Montella is mourning the death of his sister Caterina, who died in hospital following a domestic accident, the Turkish football association said on Wednesday.
Doctors fought for her life for days, according to a statement.
"As the Turkish Football Federation, we would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased, in particular our senior national team coach Vincenzo Montella," the association wrote on X.
The 52-year-old former Italy striker took over Turkey in September 2023 and led them to Euro 2024 and the recent World Cup, where they went out in the group stage.
Montella's contract runs until after the European Championship in 2028.
