Spain player jokes he'll only shake Trump's hand to avoid prison

Borja Iglesias is not relishing his meeting with Donald Trump on Sunday, July 19.

The Spain forward will see the U.S. president after the World Cup final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Trump will be present to award the trophy to the winner of the match between Spain and Argentina.

Iglesias, who is known for being outspoken about a number of political issues, was asked about his impending meeting with Trump in an interview with Panenka.

"I don't want to go to prison," Iglesias said with a laugh. "I hope to greet him at a time when we are all very happy, and that it passes very quickly and I can forget about it."I don't think this is the time to create controversy. People know perfectly well what I think. I would love to do many things, but the reality is that even if people think I am all-powerful, I don't have that much power to tackle certain things. It's complicated, to be honest."

Iglesias, 33, has made one appearance for Spain at the World Cup, coming on as a late substitute in La Roja's win over Portugal in the round of 16.

After a somewhat quiet start to the tournament Trump has been heavily involved in the latter stages of the competition.

Trump revealed he pushed FIFA president Gianni Infantino to reverse the red card suspension for U.S. striker Folarin Balogun, and he also opined on England's tactics in the team's semifinal loss to Argentina.

All eyes will be on Trump after the World Cup final following last year's Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium. Trump put himself in the middle of Chelsea's celebration after winning the title, even prompting some players to wonder aloud why he wouldn't leave the stage.
