Spain's final training session before Sunday's World Cup final against Argentina was cancelled due to heavy thunderstorms in New York and New Jersey.

"The Spanish national team's training session on the pitches at the Melanie Lane Training Ground in New Jersey has been suspended in accordance with the US storm safety protocol. The players are currently taking part in a warm-up session indoors," the Spanish federation RFEF said in a statement according to the BBC.

Luis de la Fuente's squad was due to train at the Melanie Lane training ground in New Jersey on Saturday. The session was initially suspended and later called off.

Argentina also had issues during their training, which started after a 45-minute delay.

The adverse weather conditions also prevented FIFA president Gianni Infantino from travelling to Miami to watch the match for third place between England and France.

"Well, today I should actually be in Miami for the bronze medal match between England and France," Infantino said in a video on Saturday, recorded at the stadium in East Rutherford, near New York, which will host Sunday's final between Spain and Argentina.

"Unfortunately, the weather conditions here didn't allow us to fly to Miami so we came to the stadium of the final the meantime to check that everything is ready.

Infantino was in New York for a media appearance with United States President Donald Trump on Friday. Several flights from and to the city were cancelled due to the weather conditions.

England beat France in a thrilling 6-4 victory to take third place. Argentina and Spain play for the title on Sunday.
