The San Antonio Spurs' Summer League squad fell to the Los Angeles Lakers 88-84 on Monday. But despite the defeat, rookie forward Tarris Reed Jr. delivered an encouraging performance. After shaking off some early-game rust, the second-round pick finished with an impressive double-double.

Following the game, Summer League head coach Corliss Williamson shared that many of his conversations with Reed have centered on helping the rookie understand the specific role he is expected to play alongside franchise star Victor Wembanyama.

"(I told him), 'You're not going to get a lot of shots. So, the way you impact the game is through your physicality and crashing the offensive glass,” Williamson said.

"I'm just putting those little ideas in (his) head and trying to see if (he) can focus on those ... during a game."

Against the Lakers, Reed responded with one of his strongest performances of the Summer League. He recorded 12 points and 12 rebounds while shooting an efficient 6-for-10 from the field.

The outing built on a solid Summer League debut against the Miami Heat, where he contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, and one block. He was then held out of San Antonio's California Classic matchup against the Golden State Warriors solely for rest during the back-to-back schedule.

Reed has already made it clear that he is willing to embrace whatever responsibilities the Spurs ask of him. During his postgame media session, the rookie confidently stated that he is open to filling any role necessary to help the team succeed.

The rookie now has a legitimate opportunity to earn minutes in San Antonio's rotation. He is expected to provide valuable physicality, rebounding, and interior depth off the bench behind Wembanyama and veteran center Luke Kornet.
