Stetson Bennett on the Rams' roster bubble
Former Georgia Bulldogs two-time national champion quarterback Stetson Bennett enters the 2026 NFL season on the Los Angeles Rams' roster bubble, according to Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire.
Bennett is entering his fourth season in the NFL, but has not seen any regular season action. Bennett was the Rams' backup quarterback behind Jimmy Garoppolo in Week 18 last season, but outside of that he served as the Los Angeles No. 3 quarterback behind Garoppolo and Matthew Stafford.
Bennett enters the 2026 season likely to have a similar role. The Rams return Stafford and controversially spent a first-round pick on Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Ty Simpson. As a first-round pick, Simpson is a lock to make the Rams' roster. The question is will he beat out Bennett to earn the backup role? If that's the case, then Bennett's roster spot will be in jeopardy.
Garoppolo is out of the equation, so Bennett could maintain the No. 3 role. Still, DaSilva puts Bennett on the roster bubble entering camp. Ideally for Bennett, he will have a strong training camp, preseason and win the backup role.
"If Bennett continues to develop the way he did last season, he'll make the team," DaSilva wrote. "He'll be too valuable to cut and would likely be scooped up by one of the other 31 teams off waivers. But if he can't beat out Simpson in camp and the preseason, he'll be expendable."
Bennett, 28, does not have as much upside as Simpson, but he has valuable experience in the Rams' system. Bennett needs to make progress up the depth chart if he's going to appear in a regular season game during his NFL career.
The Rams start training camp on July 25. Los Angeles' first preseason game is on Aug. 15 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
