Summer Recruiting Roundup: Dog Days

Welcome to the dog days of summer.

With the whirlwind of June official visits, camps, and commitment flips behind us, things have started to slow down on the recruiting trail for Penn State. Still, Matt Campbell’s crew has been working behind the scenes enough over the last few weeks to generate some buzz.

Swedish OT Picks Penn State

Penn State went out of its comfort zone and scooped up three-star offensive lineman Oscar Webersink last week. He’ll fully make the switch to American football and attend high school in Connecticut, where 247Sports already considered him the state’s No. 3 prospect, this fall.

I like this move by Campbell a lot. Webersink is 6-foot-8 and already weighs 290 pounds — an athletic freak by every marker. It might be a long shot that he’ll develop into an NFL-caliber star, but the risk is certainly worth it for Penn State. Every class needs its fair share of lower-rated players with upside, so why not go find them in Sweden?

Future QB Locks Down Commitment

Four-star Pennsylvania quarterback James Armstrong, who made the call for Penn State in early July, recently went on record with some strong words about his commitment to the Nittany Lions.

“To Penn State fans who think about decommitting and everything…I don’t even look at it about Penn State having to keep me,” he said. “I think about me having to develop and keep performing in the way Penn State wants me to…I already made my choice. That’s where I want to go.”

In an age of sloppy decommitments, recruitment flips, and NIL arms races, this is simply refreshing.

PSU Makes Four-Star DE’s Cut

Penn State is officially in the running for highly coveted edge rusher George Parkinson IV. The in-state prospect is also considering Texas A&M, Ohio State, Oregon, LSU, and Tennessee. This would be a big get for Campbell, who’s already missed on a few key Pennsylvania kids. Parkinson attends Malvern Prep, which produced four-star edge rusher Jackson Ford in the 2026 class.

White Out List Growing

Speaking of freaking offensive linemen, four-star Pennsylvania OT Ty Winn recently announced he’ll be on campus for the White Out, which has historically been one of the most important recruiting weekends on Penn State’s calendar. Well, it’s not confirmed that the USC game will be the White Out yet, but…
