SV Wehen Wiesbaden vs. Bayern Munich: Initial Observations and Reactions

Fulltime observations

• Tom Bischof held up what was otherwise a pretty mediocre outing from Bayern. It was Bischof with Tim Binder who ran the show.
• Justin Janitzek shone for Wiesbaden. There’s always something bitter about ex-Bayern players doing well against us.
• Sacha Boey was near absent and Joao Palhinha offered very little in the midfield. Both their futures remain a question.
• Ulreich’s unfortunate spill was sadly one of the primary reasons for Lukas Schleimer’s game winner. Wiesbaden certainly have a lot more to celebrate following this win, as they will move on to partake in the club’s anniversary festivities.
• As always, a keeper against Bayern must put up his best, and so did Florian Stritzel who denied a majority of Binder’s efforts.

82’: Lukas Schleimer picks up the slipped ball off Sven Ulreich and well, it’s 2-1.

56’: Binder was fouled in the box. Tom Bischof takes the penalty and scores as the Wiesbaden keeper Stritzel lets the ball slip through his fingers. 1-1 to Bayern!

Second half: Tom Bischof, Sacha Boey, Joao Palhina, Felipe Chávez, Vincent Manuba and Sven Ulreich are on! Later, Maycon Cardozo and Arijon Ibrahimovic too were brought on. The game already feels different. At HT, sporting director Christoff Freund promised a different game in the second half.

Halftime Observations

• It is clear the players have only been in training for a few days now. The decision making has been a bit off in terms of passing and in the final third. In the end of the day, they’re all just teenagers and often that means a few errors here and there. Nothing that cannot be fixed.
• The first goal came mostly off a Bayern error and Ati Allah is still on the lookout for a second. Bayern will have to learn to shut him down.
• Kompany will look to make more subs in the second half, perhaps featuring all the senior players. The game had not much going after the hydration break, barring Binder’s attempt near HT.

26’: WEIRDEST SUBSTITUTION EVER? At the end of the hydration break, Vincent Kompany makes a double substitution.

9’: Ibrahim Ati Allah makes it 1-0 for Wehen Wiesbaden off a loose pass from Schaff.

A slew of youth players will likely be in the spotlight, but Tom Bischof, João Palhinha, Sacha Boey, Arijon Ibrahimović, and Sven Ulreich are expected to lead the way. From there, it will be Romper Room — and that should be kind of fun.
