Terrell Owens delivers an honest take on A.J. Brown’s exit from Eagles

Terrell Owens knows something about elite wide receiver play, star exits, and what it means to carry enormous expectations in Philadelphia.

Smith is no longer sharing top billing with Brown, but this is not the first time he has been asked to prove he can lead a passing game. His route running, body control, hands, and consistency have long made him one of the NFL’s most polished wideouts. The difference entering 2026 is opportunity. Smith will now sit at the front of a reshaped room that includes Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks, Elijah Moore, rookie Makai Lemon, and several receivers competing for depth roles.

Owens’ comments also offer a useful reminder. Brown’s departure does not have to be viewed as a referendum on the Eagles or on Smith. Brown made the decision he believed was right for his career, and Philadelphia must now build around the talent that remains.

The Eagles may not have another receiver with Brown’s exact blend of size, strength, and production, but they still have a player Owens believes has always belonged in the No. 1 conversation. That endorsement carries weight. For Smith, the challenge is turning that belief into another productive season as the clear leader of Philadelphia’s wide receiver room.
