Texas A&M even series with 8–4 win over Vanderbilt in Game 2

Texas A&M bounced back on Friday afternoon, taking the first game of the doubleheader with an 8–4 win over Vanderbilt to even the weekend series. The Aggies will turn around quickly for Game 2 on Friday night, but they’ll enter it with some much‑needed momentum.

It wasn’t a banner day at the plate. The Aggies recorded just five hits, but they made Vanderbilt pay for every mistake. The Commodores issued 13 walks and committed three errors, and the Aggies manufactured runs all afternoon by staying disciplined and aggressive on the bases.

A&M struck first in the opening inning when Gavin Grahovac slid past the tag on a wild pitch for a 1–0 lead. Moments later, freshman Nico Partida delivered the biggest swing of the early frames, launching a two‑run homer to push the advantage to 3–0.

Vanderbilt answered with back‑to‑back solo home runs in the third, trimming the lead to 3–2. But with two outs in the bottom of the inning, a throwing error on a routine play to first allowed Jorian Wilson to score, stretching the margin back to 4–2.

The Commodores continued to chip away, adding another solo shot in the fifth. A&M responded in the bottom half when Wilson singled up the middle to score Jake Duer, restoring a two‑run cushion.

Vanderbilt’s fourth solo home run of the day made it 5–4, but Grahovac immediately countered with a solo blast of his own in the sixth. From there, the Aggies added insurance in the late innings, building an 8–4 lead heading into the ninth.

Right‑hander Clayton Freshcorn handled the final frame. After allowing a single and a walk, he locked in—striking out two and inducing a flyout to secure the win and stabilize a bullpen that will be tested again tonight.

A&M now has a chance to take the series in the nightcap, but after burning through arms on Thursday, they’ll need another composed, opportunistic performance to finish the job.
