Republicans Can't Settle It — Cornyn and Paxton Are Going Again

Here's where things get spicy. On the Republican side, nobody crossed the finish line. Senator John Cornyn, who has been holding his Senate seat since 2002, could not wrap it up in the primary. Neither could his challenger, Attorney General Ken Paxton.

So now? They fight again — in a May runoff.

And the gloves are already off. Cornyn went after Paxton's character in public remarks in Austin. Paxton clapped right back at his watch party in Dallas, calling out what he described as dirty campaign tactics. This one is personal, and it's only going to get louder before May.

Worth noting — a Democrat has not won a Senate seat in Texas in over three decades. So whoever wins the Republican runoff will be the heavy favourite heading into November against Talarico.
