Three former Vols play for Spurs in NBA California Classic
Golden State Gold defeated San Antonio, 98-69, Sunday in the NBA Summer League California Classic at Chase Center in San Franciso, California.
Three former Tennessee basketball players competed in the contest for the Spurs.
Ja'Kobi Gillespie started and played 22 minutes. He totaled nine points, four assists, two rebounds and one block. Gillespie converted 4-of-12 field goal attempts and 1-for-4 three-point attempts.
Igor Milicic Jr. made his 2026 summer league debut and played nine minutes. He recorded five points and three rebounds. Milicic Jr. converted 2-of-6 field goal attempts and 1-for-3 three point attempts.
Zakai Zeigler also made his 2026 summer league debut, playing five minutes. He recorded three assists and one steal.
Gillespie was selected by San Antonio in the second round of the 2026 NBA draft (No. 42 overall).
He played one season for the Vols and appeared in 37 games (37 starts). Gillespie holds the program's single-season record for steals (79). He also recorded 201 assists, converted 103 three-point attempts and was the first Vol to score 650 points and record 200 assists in a season.
Milicic Jr. played at Tennessee during the 2024-25 season after transferring from Charlotte and Virginia. In his one season at Tennessee, he appeared in 37 games (37 starts). Milicic Jr. is tied for fourth place in most starts in program history.
Zeigler played for Tennessee from 2021-25 and helped the Vols advance to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight from 2024-25. He is the school's all-time assists and steals leader.
