Tigers Expected to Make Roster Move with Framber Valdez on Bereavement List
The Detroit Tigers are expected to make a temporary roster move before Friday night’s game as left-handed starter Framber Valdez remains on the bereavement list.
According to Tigers beat writer Evan Woodbery, Detroit is expected to add a player to fill Valdez’s roster spot for the next day or two while the veteran pitcher is away from the club for personal reasons.
Tigers May Not Add Another Pitcher
While replacing a starting pitcher might seem like the obvious move, Woodbery noted that may not be the case.
“The Tigers are expected to make a move before tonight’s game to fill a roster spot for a day or two while Framber Valdez is on the bereavement list,” Woodbery posted on X. “It doesn’t have to be a pitcher and might not be, given that the entire staff is well rested.”
With Detroit’s pitching staff entering the series fully rested, the club could instead opt to bring up a position player to provide additional depth off the bench.
Valdez Was Rolling Before His Leave
Valdez heads to the bereavement list after another dominant performance on July 9 against the Athletics.
The left hander allowed just one run over seven innings while striking out nine batters, continuing what has been an outstanding season atop Detroit’s rotation.
The Tigers have not announced how long Valdez is expected to be away, but the bereavement list typically allows players to miss between one and three games.
Detroit is expected to announce its corresponding roster move before first pitch Friday evening.
