The Golden State Warriors have been all in on LeBron James since it became clear that he would become a free agent and leave the Los Angeles Lakers. The Warriors are hoping to add James for one final run at an NBA championship.
Golden State has had its fair share of Finals battles against James throughout his career. Now, Stephen Curry is trying to convince James to join him in the Bay Area.
“Pairing him with Stephen Curry is going to be something that the Warriors are going to pursue over the next few weeks… It seemed very doubtful, it seemed low percentage, now it’s kind of questionable. Now there’s going to be some legs to this… That same source told us that Steph is planning on meeting and talking with LeBron about potentially joining the Warriors over the course of the next few weeks leading up to free agency,” NBA insider Brett Siegel said.
Curry was not the only Warriors player to make his pitch to James. Draymond Green has also made his case for why James should join Golden State.
“LeBron James and Draymond Green are meeting up as the NBA's all-time leading scorer looks to join a new team for the 2026-27 season, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. Charania reported that James and Green are spending some time here together this week at an undisclosed location during a Tuesday appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show,” Bleacher Report’s Zach Bachar wrote.
The Warriors have been in the mix for James since the beginning of free agency. On Tuesday night, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy may have provided a major hint about when a decision could come from James.
“I think we're getting close to finalizing the roster,” Dunleavy said.
Dunleavy likely would not have made that comment unless he believed James was nearing a decision. If the Warriors land the four-time NBA champion, the team would likely only need to add one more player to complete its roster.
Golden State knows adding James would be a massive move, but there have been signs that a decision could be coming soon. Dunleavy’s comments suggest the Warriors are preparing to finalize their roster around the time James chooses his next destination.
