The Boston Red Sox will be without one of their frontline starting pitchers for at least a few weeks.

On Thursday, the AL East club announced that left-hander Ranger Suarez was placed on the 15-day IL with a groin strain.

The move is retroactive to July 6, per Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors. Taking Suarez's place on Boston's active roster is infielder Brett Harris from Triple-A Worcester.

Suarez left his last start, a matchup against the Los Angeles Angels, in the third inning with tightness in his left adductor.

He has made 17 starts in a Red Sox uniform after signing a five-year, $130 million deal with the organization during the offseason.

In those outings, Suarez has posted a 3.15 ERA with 97 strikeouts and just 26 walks in 91.1 innings.

That's following an impressive and successful transition from a reliever to a starter during his first eight seasons in the Majors with the Philadelphia Phillies

Suarez was named to the American League All-Star team, but will not be able to participate due to his groin injury.

While Suarez is out, Boston will hope to continue its hot streak. They've won 10 of their last 12 games.
