The Chicago White Sox got some bad news after the first week of April, as Austin Slater landed on the injured list with an injury that will keep him out for some time.

But that wasn't the worst injury update the White Sox got this week. Chicago is losing a 25-year-old infielder for the rest of the season with a brutal update.

According to White Sox reporter Brooke Fletcher, Brooks Baldwin, the 25-year-old infielder, is going to undergo season-ending internal brace surgery on his right elbow.

"INF Brooks Baldwin elected to undergo a season-ending UCL internal brace procedure on his right elbow on 4/1," Fletcher reports. "Baldwin, who was placed on the 10-day on 3/26, is expected to be ready by spring training."

Baldwin hadn't suited up for the White Sox in 2026 due to this injury, but this season-ending surgery report is a very noteworthy one.

He's expected to be good to go for next year's spring training, but Baldwin is still missing a full season, which would've been his third year in the big leagues.

Baldwin played in eight spring training games before this injury in 0226, and he hit .286 with a .762 OPS. Not a bad start to the year for Baldwin.

But now, he's going to miss the rest of the season with a UCL internal brace procedure. Baldwin, in his MLB career thus far, has a .232 batting average and 13 home runs with a .661 OPS in 414 at-bats across 136 games played.

This is a tough report for the White Sox, a young team trying to get a good idea of what the roster can look like going into the future.

With Baldwin down for a full season, the White Sox will get a look at a lot of different infielders this season. This is some tough news to begin the year, as Chicago will be without this young infielder for the next season.
