Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders cleverly hiding QB decision on Julian Lewis, Kaidon Salter

Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders has a nearly $2 million quarterback question to answer for the 2025 season: deciding between Liberty Flames transfer Kaidon Salter or four-star Carrollton (GA) prospect Julian Lewis.
He’s not answering that question at Big 12 Football Media Days.
On SI’s Jack Carlough pointed out the clever sleight of hand that sending Salter and Lewis to Dallas is in avoiding downplaying either.
“With their starting quarterback job still undecided, the Colorado Buffaloes are taking a somewhat unique approach to who they're sending to next week's Big 12 football media days at The Star in Frisco, Texas,” Carlough wrote.
“Instead of showing his hand by giving either Liberty Flames transfer Kaidon Salter or incoming freshman Julian ‘JuJu’ Lewis the plane ticket, coach Deion Sanders will allow both to attend, making Colorado the only Big 12 team sending two quarterbacks. Every Big 12 team except for the BYU Cougars, UCF Knights, Houston Cougars, Oklahoma State Cowboys and West Virginia Mountaineers will send one quarterback to the event, scheduled for July 8-9.”
Replacing Shedeur Sanders is the biggest obstacle Colorado faces. There won’t be another Travis Hunter for a long time, if ever, but there wouldn’t have been a Heisman winner in Boulder without Shedeur finding him 14 times in the end zone last season.
Salter and Lewis represent radically different options that both lack experience facing Big 12 defenses.
The good news? The level of difficulty is vastly different facing Big 12 units than those in the Big Ten and SEC.
Either could be a starter, though Salter is more likely to be under center in Week 1.
Coach Prime isn’t having that question answered at Big 12 Football Media Days either way.
