The Dolphins and Ramsey mutually agreed to seek a trade prior to the NFL Draft this offseason. However, nearly two months later Ramsey remains on the roster.
The delay in the trade could be part of the Dolphins' plan though. With the June 1 deadline passing, Miami can stretch Ramsey's cap hit over the next two years, rather than it all being accounted for in 2025.
Ramsey's current cap hit for 2025 is about $16.6 million.
While the Dolphins' corner is headed into the final year of his current contract, prior to the 2024 season, Ramsey signed a three-year, $72.3 million extension that goes through 2028.
Therefore, if the two sides find a trade partner, they'd have Ramsey under contract for another four seasons.
A few potential trade targets for the All-Pro corner are the Rams, Raiders, Buccaneers and Cardinals.
The Rams would offer a reunion for Ramsey where he spent four years before becoming a Dolphin and won the Super Bowl in 2021. Los Angeles is a contender again heading into 2025, and they've shown before they're not afraid to go all in.
The Raiders offer an interesting destination as they have plenty of cap space to take on Ramsey's contract. Las Vegas has a need at the cornerback position and with Maxx Crosby on the defensive line, the duo could help this defense give the Raiders a chance to contend for a playoff birth.
The Buccaneers would allow Ramsey to stay in Florida, and bolster up Tampa Bay's defense. The Buccaneers have the cap space and draft picks available to make the trade, and have a defensive-minded head coach to fit perfectly with Ramsey.
Lastly, the Cardinals have continued to show growth under third-year head coach Jonathan Gannon. This would be the year for the Cardinals to get over the hump and make the playoffs. Ramsey would give them their No. 1 corner and they have the cap space available to add him to the roster.
While the two sides continue to search for a solution, the sooner it comes to an end, the better for Ramsey. Mandatory minicamp begins on Tuesday and runs through Thursday. The longer this process drags on will affect Ramsey as he'll be fined for each day he does not attend.
