'Unfinished Business' Led Kareem Hunt Back To Chiefs originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt had his best return in 2024 with 728 yards, the most since 2021, plus a solid seven touchdowns.

That was done without a preseason as Hunt was signed as cover for Isiah Pacheco, who was injured in Week 2, so Kareem didn't have a minicamp or training camp to get his football body ready.

Now, after re-signing with the Chiefs this offseason, Hunt returns to the AFC champs, but of all the teams Kareem could have chosen, why did he decide to come back?

"Feel like some unfinished business," Hunt said. "I love the guys here, love the staff and good people all around."

As minicamp approaches for Hunt, he knows that last season he wasn't in the best shape early on, due to not having a full preseason; however, this time around, it will be different.

"Oh yeah, it's going to definitely help me get my body in shape, get used to hitting and grinding out those long tough days," he added. "Training camp, that's what helps you get through this season."

With Hunt now able to get a full body of work this offseason, along with Pacheco, free agent signing Elijah Mitchell, and draftee Brashard Smith, the Chiefs have a solid running back room.

Whether Kareem leads it again is unknown, but he will have a chance to prove it with a full training camp, aiming to convince head coach Andy Reid and coordinator Matt Nagy that he deserves the starting role.

Unfinished business led Hunt back to Kansas City, and a full offseason might lead to that business being finished in the best way possible.
