7-year-old’s first kickflip sparks epic father-son reaction

A 7-year-old from Wagga Wagga, Australia, left his dad in awe with a stunning skateboard trick.

The kickflip is one of skateboarding’s most iconic moves. It’s considered a rite of passage for riders, but it isn’t easy. In fact, when it was invented in the early 1980s, some believed it couldn’t be replicated.

Of course, it has been — but seldom by a skateboarder so young.

Nate Bunt, now 8 years old, practiced for two hours a day for months to nail the trick. He and his father, Matthew Bunt, run an Instagram account showcasing Nate's progress and growing list of tricks. The video of Nate successfully landing his first-ever kickflip at age 7 has drawn 3.5 million views.

The clip shows Matthew standing behind Nate, cheering him on as he attempts the trick. When all four wheels hit the ground, the pair erupts in celebration.

“I was very emotional watching Nate land his first kickflip,” Matthew said. “I knew how hard he was working for this. His goal was to land it before he turned 8. Success.”

Nate dreams of one day becoming an Olympian.
