Boston Celtics assistant Sam Cassell on Jaylen Brown trade, Paul George fit
Boston Celtics assistant coach Sam Cassell was the first member of the Celtics coaching staff to address the trade of star forward Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George and draft assets in a short interview with WBZ News, sharing his thoughts on the controversial player swap that has fans upset and many an analyst scratching their head given the rushed nature and disappointing return for an All-NBA Second Team talent.
"Jaylen has done everything possible for this city," said Cassell of the Georgia native. "I don't know ... if he'll be missed, but it's the NBA. Wilt Chamberlain got traded, (and he) averaged 50 points one year, so it happens. The trade happens in this league."
"I wish nothing but the best for Jaylen Brown. He's a hell of a basketball player, a great person," added the Celtics coach. "Life goes on."
As for Boston's newest expensive forward, Cassell described George as a "good dude," and a "good man," talking up his fit with Boston in the latter stages of his playing career at age 36. "Plays hard, he's got to understand how we want to play, and he'll be fine here."
"Get him here. He doesn't have to try to be Jaylen Brown. He's got to be Paul George. That's all we need him to be. We'll be fine –we'll be fine. We'll figure it out. The game's played on the basketball court."
