Can Browns' new EDGE Jared Verse live up to the lofty expections?

The Cleveland Browns have not been short on storylines this offseason, and perhaps the biggest story of them all was the trade of reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett.

In the trade, the Browns received 2024 NFL Rookie of the Year and former first rounder Jared Verse back in return. And whether Verse wants the expectations of filling the void left by Garrett or not, that is the situation he has been dropped into. However, Dan Labbe of Cleveland dot com thinks that Verse is up for the task and that the Browns will be happy with the long-term piece they received back in the trade of Garrett.

What can the Browns expect from Jared Verse?

Here is what Labbe had to say when discussing what he expects from the former NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year as he steps into the role left behind by a future first-ballot Hall of Famer:

"Jared Verse doesn't need to have a huge bag of pass moves. If you can just add one more pass move to complement that power, it just unlocks so much more. He's so young. He's going to his third year in the league, and he's already so accomplished, and yet there's still upside there. There's still room to develop. Give him two more moves, and now you've got a 15-sack guy. I think there is still a ceiling that he can reach even beyond what we've seen in these two seasons."

Verse's go-to move is his long-arm, showcasing his power profile through the chest of the man across from him. He does, however, have to develop a consistent feel for when to throw the changeup. Having a diverse set of pass rush moves is not necessary, as Labbe is saying here, but finding a way to build off of his power profile is important for Verse as he enters his third season in the NFL and his first season with the Browns.
