Chiefs star Chris Jones earns No. 2 spot in AP preseason DT rankings
Kansas City Chiefs star Chris Jones has long been recognized as one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, and that trend continued in The Associated Press’ preseason defensive tackle rankings this year, with Jones coming in at No. 2 overall at the position.
“Jones has been the most important piece on Kansas City’s defense during an eight-year run that featured seven appearances in the AFC title game, five Super Bowl trips and three championships,” AP’s Josh Dubow said of the Chiefs’ defensive anchor. “Jones has 87 1/2 career sacks and has often delivered clutch plays in key moments in the playoffs.”
The only player who ranked ahead of Jones was Tennessee Titans first-team All-Pro honoree Jeffery Simmons. Though the Chiefs did not make the playoffs last season, Jones still managed to record seven sacks and produced well in multiple areas, maintaining his status as one of the premier linemen in the league.
