Conor McGregor tore the ACL in his right knee at UFC 329, ending his fight with Max Holloway before it really managed to get started. That’s the official word from UFC big boss Dana White, who shared the news with the world following UFC Oklahoma City.

We’ve known something was terribly wrong with McGregor’s knee from the moment he landed a wild jumping switch kick and his leg gave out on him seconds into the first round. A few more collapses and his fight with Holloway was waved off after just over a minute (watch the fiasco here). What we didn’t know was exactly what was wrong with the knee. Was it a meniscus tear? ACL or MCL? Would McGregor be out for six months or a year?

During the UFC Oklahoma City post-fight press conference, a member of the press asked if White had any update on the specifics of McGregor’s injury.

“I don’t know, do you know?” White said, turning to Hunter Campbell off stage.

“ACL,” Hunter responded. “And there’s another tear. There’s two.”

“ACL,” White repeated said grimly. “His knee’s f–ked up.”

White wasn’t too eager to revisit the Conor McGregor drama from UFC 329 that left the fans who payed over $25 million to attend feeling ripped off.

“He’s having knee surgery. That’s it,” White said when asked about Conor. “I mean, the Conor McGregor discussion isn’t even worth talking about. He’s got to have knee surgery. He’s going to have to go through physical therapy. It’s all going to take time. And then when the doctor says, ‘You can start hardcore training again,’ then we start talking about Conor McGregor again.”

Top athletes in their prime can take nine months or a year to come back from an ACL tear. McGregor is 38 years old and apparently has TWO tears, which sounds pretty damn bad. If White won’t be speaking about Mac until the Irish sports star gets back to training, he won’t be speaking about him for a long time.
