Denzel Aberdeen hits a milestone that Kentucky needed every bit of
In a season marred by injuries to key players acquired through the transfer portal, Denzel Aberdeen has been an incredible bright spot.
Aberdeen leads the Wildcats with 96 assists, and he has just 36 turnovers through 29 games. He’s also averaging 13 points per game and shooting over 37 percent from 3-point range.
And according to @WildcatsTongue on Twitter, Aberdeen is one of just five players to hit a unique milestone since 2004 that showcases how well he’s performed while running Mark Pope’s offense.
When you’re mentioned in the same sentence as Tyler Ulis and Patrick Sparks, you must be doing something right. And it shows just how well Aberdeen has been playing at point guard in a season that was nearly derailed by the injury to Jaland Lowe. Without Aberdeen stepping up and playing the point effectively, we could be talking about a Kentucky team about to make the NIT.
Aberdeen has won a national championship. That’s what attracted Big Blue Nation to him coming to Kentucky in the portal last offseason. He played an important role on Florida’s national title team in 2025, including making a free throw to extend the Gators’ lead to 65-63 in the final half-minute of the game.
With it now being March, this is the time for Aberdeen to really step up. He is a vital part of this Kentucky team. If he can elevate his play to an even higher level, then the Cats are going to be dancing for quite a while in March.
